The Spider Strikes!

The film version of the pulp character, The Spider, is covered in Jim Warren's SCREEN THRILLS ILLUSTRATED #8, May 1963. I've included some covers of the original pulp version, including #1, "The Spider Strikes," from 1933.

The Moon Lady

This cute LITTLE AUDREY Wonder Book is credited to Harvey Cartoon Studios for its creation, but is that Owie-Hoon Ost-Poon (that's moon talk) who did the pencils? Sure looks like his work.

Giving thanks for John Severin...

It's Thanksgiving Day, and I'm thankful to Blogger.com for giving me the opportunity to show some of my favorite things. I'm also thankful for those folks who check in regularly to see what I'm showing. THANKS, EVERYBODY!

That said, how about something from one of my all time favorite comic artists, John Severin. These are pages from CRACKED #19, 1961. Although these aren't really satire, they show Severin's masterful ability at drawing people and historic costumes. THANKS, JOHNNY!

I flipped panel one from the preceding page so you don't have to turn your monitor over.

Escape from hell

From HAUNTED #20, February 1975. Tom Sutton gives us a 23-page Lovecraftian/gothic horror story, featuring monsters, Elder gods raising an army of the undead, and even some "dinasours." This escape from hell gives us a helluva lot for 25¢!
